HUSH PUPPIES TO CLOSE ONTARIO PLANT THIS FALL
By Adnews Staff
Montreal-based Hush Puppies Canada will close its Ontario manufacturing plant this October, citing a change in consumer demand for footwear among other global business factors as the reasons. The Alexandria, Ontario-based plant employs 40 people. Spokespeople for Hush Puppies, which is a division of Wolverine World Wide Inc. of Michigan, said the closing is part of a realignment of several manufacturing facilities within Wolverine. Also to close are manufacturing sites in the U.S., Puerto Rico and Costa Rica. "While this is a difficult decision, we have developed a new strategic plan that consolidates our operations into our remaining profitable facilities and focuses our efforts on a narrower range of products," Wolverine president Timothy O'Donovan stated.
