Toronto-based newspaper The Globe and Mail has announced that it experienced its highest quarterly advertising sales volume ever in the fourth quarter of 1999. The company reports that in January and February previous linage records were broken by as much as 20%. "We credit these ad results to the fact that The Globe and Mail is able to offer a clearly-defined, loyal and appealing readership," said publisher and CEO Phillip Crawley. "It's an audience of consumers that is highly coveted by Canadian advertisers." The company also noted that ad sales volume was up despite the loss of advertising from Eaton's and competition from the National Post. The paper reports that it expects advertising sales volume to continue to increase in the first quarter of 2000.
