MACLAREN MCCANN SHOPPING AT THE SONY STORE
By Adnews Staff
Toronto-based Sony of Canada Ltd. has tapped the Toronto office of MacLaren McCann to handle its combined Sony store, consumer electronics and computer product account. MacLaren McCann won the account following a competition with Ranscombe & Co., Zig Inc. and Ambrose Carr Linton Carroll Inc. The Sony store had been without an agency since mid-November when Sony pulled the account from Roche Macaulay & Partners, ending its two and a half year relationship with that agency. Ranscombe had been working with Sony on a project basis handling creative for the consumer electronics account, while Strategic Ampersand Inc. had been handling creative for the computer products group. Strategic Ampersand will remain on the agency roster for Sony handling the broadcast and professional group business, John McCarter, general manager of advertising and corporate communications for Sony, told Adnews. MacLaren McCann and Strategic Ampersand join Due North Communications, which manages media planning and buying, and Lowe RMP Direct which handles the direct marketing assignments, on the Sony store roster.
