YOUTH CULTURE REDESIGNS IN-SCHOOL MAGAZINES WITH A BANG

Toronto-based Youth Culture In-school Communications is giving its Bang and Watch magazines a facelift. Both publications, which come out 11 times a year, will now feature a more consistent design throughout. Similar fonts will now be seen on the pages of the magazines in both headlines and story text. Logo's have been redesigned and coloured bars added. Each magazine will have more photography and a generic cover. Editorial director Fina Scroppo said the idea of school being shared as a common characteristic between readers will be featured as the theme of more stores. One example she explains, would be a feature on beauty and make up after a gym class. The sports coverage as well as health and beauty tips and fashion spreads has also been increased. Bang and Watch are distributed in more than 2,600 schools across the country. Bang, with a circulation of 100,000, targets 12-13 year olds typically found in grades 7 and 8 and Watch, with a circulation of 150,000, targets the 14-17 year old age group found in high school. The redesigned magazines hit schools today. Faith Inc. of Mississauga, Ontario worked on the redesign.
