QUEBEC GROUP SAYS "SHAME ON OTTAWA"
By Adnews Staff
A full-page print ad entitled "Shame on Ottawa" ran in yesterday's issue of the New York Times criticizing the "clarity" bill that was introduced by the Government of Canada last week. The ad was placed by a coalition of non-government organizations and includes signatures from Quebec labor federations, teachers' unions, the writers' union and a number of other organizations. Robin Philpot, head of communications for the Societe Saint-Jean Baptiste de Montreal explained it was the international reach the newspaper offered that appealed to the group in placing the ad. The coalition also has plans to modify the ad and run it in additional languages such as Spanish and French for the new year, but plans have not been confirmed.
