COMEDY NETWORK SENDING CONTEST WINNER TO HELL
By Adnews Staff
Toronto-based The Comedy Network is sending the winners of its "Go to Hell and a Handbasket" contest to the tiny village of Hell. The contest, part of the network's "Kiss Your Sorry Ass Goodbye" end-of-the-millennium promotional campaign, asks viewers to send in a video of themselves telling the most hellish joke of the millennium. Three finalists will be chosen and their videos aired between 9:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. on December 15 and 16. Viewers can vote for the worst joke by phone or e-mail. The winner announced on Open Mike with Mike Bullard December 17. The worst joke of the millennium winner and a guest will win a trip to the Grand Caymen Islands, where the village of Hell is located. The contest and promotional campaign is being promoted with the network's anti-millennial mascot, a cigar-chomping Y2K "Little Bugger", in on-air promo's until the end of the year. The Little Bugger is also appearing in a series of mock public service announcements designed to capitalize on millennial paranoia, saying Y2K survival tips are useless and as the end of the year nears viewers should "kiss their sorry ass goodbye". The on-air promos and mock PSA's were created in-house.
