NATIONAL POST'S AUDIT PERIOD MOVED FROM SUMMER TO FALL

The National Post and the Audit Bureau of Circulations have changed the audit period of the Southam Inc. national newspaper. Previously scheduled to end June 30, 1999, the first audit of the newspaper will now end on September 30, 1999 instead. The change in the audit period allows the newspaper's results to coincide with those of other Canadian newspapers. According to Michael Lavery, managing director, ABC, there has not been an audit of this scale since the launch of USA Today in 1983. The ABC cites the complexity and comprehensiveness needed to measure the National Post's circulation as reasons for the change in dates. Don Babick, president and publisher of the National Post, said the paper is disappointed that the results will not be available earlier but understands and agrees with ABC's desire for accuracy of the newspaper's first audit. ABC is in its 85th year as one of the largest circulation-auditing organizations in the world.
