BELL PARTNERS WITH MTS

Toronto-based Bell Canada has teamed up with Manitoba Telecom Services to expand Bell's new broadband Internet protocol company called Newco into Western Canada. The company will begin operating in Manitoba within two months and will expand into Alberta and B.C. by the end of the year. As part of the deal, Bell will acquire a minority interest in MTS. Newco will be owned two-thirds by MTS and one-third by Bell. Newco will offer broadband and IP services, local access, long distance, as well as data and integrated services. Advertising for Newco will be handled by Palmer Jarvis DDB's Winnipeg office.
