CHINESE ARE NOT TV SHOPPERS

Chinese city dwellers are not interested in TV shopping, according to a survey done by the China Economic Monitoring Centre. Eighty per cent of the people living in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Xi'an, Chengdu and Wuhan know about TV shopping, but 57% of them said they seldom watch the programs. Beijing had the most TV shopping program viewers with 93% of respondents saying they often or occasionally watched TV shopping. However, only 4% were very interested in it. Over 71% of respondents said they have little, if any, interest in the program. Guangzhou had the least amount of consumers interested in TV shopping, with 22% of respondents giving a positive repines when asked if they were interested. Thirty-seven per cent of the people who said they were interested in TV shopping said they were only interested for the sake of curiosity. Twenty-four per cent said they prefer this type of shopping because it is more convenient. Among those who seldom watch TV shopping programs, 42% said it was because of prohibitive prices. When asked if TV shopping would ever become a major shopping means for them, 18% said it was probable and 64% said it was impossible.
