MARKETEL TO FOCUS ON PHARMACEUTICAL CLIENTS

Montreal-based Marketel has launched a new division to handle pharmaceutical clients. Called Marketel Pharma, the unit will handle marketing initiatives for prescription and over-the-counter drugs. Marketel president Jacques Duval says in a release that the agency created the division because "over the past few months, several pharmaceutical companies approached Marketel to see what communications services we could offer them. We wanted to give them the best of both worlds, pharma and consumer." Lawrence Binding will head up the new unit as general manager, while David Menear will be creative director. Binding has also worked at Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising, DDB Needham (now Palmer Jarvis DDB) and Cossette Communication-Marketing. Menear has worked on the creative side at J. Walter Thompson, Medicus Intercon and Anderson Advertising. Marketel has two clients lined up for Marketel Pharma: L'Oreal and Pfizer Consumer Health Care. For L'Oreal, Marketel will handle consumer and professional communications for the company's Ombrelle sun block line. For Pfizer, the agency will handle promotions for Reactine over-the-counter hay fever medication, Unisom over-the counter sleeping pill, Combrantrin and Ben Gay.
