POWER TEAM BATTLES BELL CANADA

Power Team Enterprises of Mississauga, Ont. is going head-to-head with Bell Canada in its latest Web site design promotion that began this week. Called To Hell With Bell Web Design promotion, Power Team will design a five-page Web site for $145 for Bell Advantage customers. If a customer does not subscribe to the Bell Advantage long distance plan, the price is $225. Power Team owner Jim Larkin told Adnews that he is running the promotion because Bell is predatory in their pricing. "I get annoyed because I have no choice but to use them for my local phone service and then they turn around an compete with me," he said. Power Team plans to run the promotion for about three months. It will be supported using direct marketing handled in-house. Bell launched its Web site design promotion a few months ago. It offers Bell Advantage customers a five-page Web site for $150. If you are not a Bell Advantage customer, you cannot receive the service. "There is no other company in our industry that can afford to give its products away as Bell is doing," Larkin says in a release. "There is no other company in our industry that can afford to set ridiculously low prices. I'd like to know which pocket they are getting the money from to do what they do. I have to believe they are taking the profits from their monopoly on local phone service and using it to compete in other areas. No wonder they want to hike their local service prices."
