NEW MORTGAGE PROVIDES SUPPORT TO SOCIAL INTEREST GROUPS

Vancouver-based Citizens Bank of Canada launched a new mortgage program this week that will see the financial institution donate funds to four non-profit organizations. Under the plan, when a customers buys a mortgage from the bank, Citizens bank will donate $50 to either Amnesty International, the Evergreen Foundation, the Canadian Women's Foundation or The Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Customers can also choose to have the bank contribute the $50 to the Citizens Bank Shared Interest fund, which donates money annually to non-profit groups selected by the bank's membership. The program will be promoted using newspaper ads created by Philips Lanyon BBDO of Vancouver. Citizens Bank is a branchless bank, offering 24-hour, seven-days-a-week service through personal computers, fax machines, automated teller machines and the telephone. The bank is owned by Vancouver City Savings Credit Union.
