BATON TO CUT OVER 300 JOBS
By Adnews Staff
Baton/CTV of Toronto plans to slash 334 positions from its roster by August because it is merging all of its operations across Canada with the CTV Television Network. Baton took control of the CTV last December. "To improve efficiency, duplicated infrastructures will be minimized in all aspects of the operations," executive vice-president and chief operating officer Bruce Cowie says in a release. The total cost of the re-organization is $11,500,000, of which $8,300,000 will be severance costs. The balance is a result of regional restructuring and will be a one-time cost. Of the 334 positions, 126 will be from vacancies, attrition and early retirements. The balance of 208 are lay offs.
