LABATT PULLS AD AFTER DOZENS OF COMPLAINTS
By Adnews Staff
Toronto-based Labatt Breweries of Canada found itself in hot water recently after Advertising Standards Canada received 15 complaints about its newest TV ad promotion for its Labatt Blue brand of beer. The brewer pulled the ad earlier this month after the ASC ruled that the ad contravened the section of its code dealing with public safety. Labatt also received dozens of complaints. The ad was launched in early March and depicts a group of young adults racing shopping carts through the city. They fly over bumps and knock over garbage can. The ad was created by Ammirati & Puris/Lintas of Toronto. Earlier this year, Labatt began airing a TV commercial that showed a bunch of people break into a game of road hockey in downtown Toronto. Some in the ad industry believed it was too similar to an older ad from Nike.
