THOMSON PUTS FINAL TOUCH ON RESTRUCTURING

Toronto-based Thomson Corp. plans to sell its travel business in London, England for about $2.5 billion to focus on its electronic information and specialized publishing business. The sale is the last move in a major restructuring period. Thomson's newspaper division in North America reported an operating profit of $192 million in 1997, up from $156 million a year earlier. Its leading papers are The Globe and Mail and the Connecticut Post. Thomson owns 70 newspapers in Canada and the U.S.
