PET VALU TO GET BIGGER
By Adnews Staff
Pet Valu Canada plans to buy Paulmac's of Peterborough, Ont. for about $3.5 million in cash and debt. The move will add 55 stores in Ontario to the Pet Valu chain, giving the pet food retailer 774 outlets in Ontario, Manitoba and five U.S. states. The deal is expected to close April 30. Paulmac's will continue to operate under its own name. Advertising for both chains is done in-house and this will continue to be the case once the deal is closed, Pet Valu corporate planning vice-president Brian Dawson told Adnews last week. Paulmac's operates a chain of pet food stores in Ontario. Most also sell fish, birds and small animals, as well as grooming services. Pet Valu carries a selection of national brands and private label pet food.
