CANWEST INCREASES INTEREST IN IRELAND STATION

Winnipeg-based CanWest International Communications has increased its stake in Ulster Television plc to 12.1%. Ulster TV is the ITV (Channel 3) television service provider in Northern Ireland CanWest is the largest single shareholder in TV3, which is set to launch in the fall. CanWest International is owned by Winnipeg-based CanWest Global Communications. Rick Hetherington has been appointed general manager and CEO of TV3 in Ireland. Formerly he was general manger of the Global Television Network station in Winnipeg. Hetherington joined CanWest Global in 1992 as marketing director.
