DISCOVERY HELPS VIEWERS TRAVEL TO WILDEST PLACES
By Adnews Staff
The Discovery Channel launched a contest this week offering winners a chance to win a trip for two to one of the wildest corners of the globe, a 1998 Subaru Outback sport utility vehicle or one of 600 instant win Discovery Channel merchandise prizes. Under the deal, participants must watch selected shows inside the Wild Discovery strip, which is a series that focuses on the animal kingdom. When the 1-800 number appears during the show, contestants call the number, are asked a pertinent question about the show to ensure they are watching it and must answer a skill testing question. They will automatically be entered into a random draw for the trip, which is the grand prize and the sport utility vehicle, which is the second prize. The grand prize winner will have a choice of one of four trips: Africa's Ngorongoro Crater, the Galapagos Islands, Alaska or Morocco. The contest is being promoted using print ads in TV Guide and other TV listings magazines, as well as on-air promotions on Discovery and its sister station, The Sports Network. The campaign was created by J. Walter Thompson of Toronto. The contest runs until Jan. 29.
