MORE SHOPPERS SPENDING ONLINE

Internet retailers have found a reason to cheer this holiday season with 41% of consumers planning to spend about 7% of its holiday shopping budget online, according to a study conducted by Ernst & Young of Toronto. In the U.S. alone, shoppers plan to spend $220 million over the Internet. In addition, 19% of shoppers who have not yet purchased products on the Internet, but have access to it, plan to use the Internet for holiday shopping. These first-time cyberspace buyers will spend an average of 3% of their budget online. Overall holiday spending will rise slightly with the average household spending $873 this year. Last year, average household spending was $856.
