WORLD WIDE WEB USAGE DOUBLES IN ONE YEAR

The World Wide Web is gaining popularity in Canada, according to a study done by ComQUEST Research of Toronto. About 19.3% of Canadian adults used the Web during the past year, compared to 9.7% from the year before. Projected by population, there are now over four million Canadian adults using the Web one or more times each week. The number of women using the Web has increased by 182%, while usage by men has grown 70%. Just over 24% of adult men use the Web, while 14.1% of women do so. Although usage of the Web has increased among all age groups, usage tripled among those over the age of 45, and doubled among Canadians aged 18 to 24. The study was done during September 1996 and 1997 with 3,000 randomly selected Canadian adults.
