GREYHOUND CUTS ITS WINGS

Greyhound Air of Calgary will land its discount air travel service permanently on Sept. 21. The company will stop operations because the airline wasn't making enough money. "Greyhound has publicly stated since last spring it has been seeking a strategic partner. Although the current peak summer travel season has produced satisfactory results for Greyhound Air, operating losses are likely during the slower winter season ahead," a Greyhound release says. Laidlaw Inc. of Burlington, Ont. has put in an offer to buy Greyhound's inter-city bus service for $100 million. Greyhound's board of directors has recommended that the company's shareholders accept the deal. The bus service will continue to operate under the Greyhound name. Laidlaw officials were unavailable to comment on who will handle advertising for Greyhound. Currently, Palmer Jarvis Advertising's Calgary office creates ads for Greyhound.
