NBTEL FILES FOR CABLE TV LICENSE

New Brunswick telephone company NBTel yesterday announced that it has applied to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission for a cable television license in that province. Although most of the details are being kept secret for the time being, "due to the highly competitive nature of our application," as NBTel's cable service general manager Jack Leachman put it, the company does hope to launch cable TV service in the first half of 1998. "Our plan is to provide the service as quickly and in as many places as we possibly can," said Leachman. More details should be forthcoming in about two months, when the CRTC makes the application public.
