COMPAQ ENHANCES SUPPORT SERVICE
By Adnews Staff
Compaq Canada of Richmond Hill, Ont. says its going the extra mile. The computer maker has launched its Extra Mile Service for its customers requiring technical support. Customers will now receive help from a bilingual Canadian customer service representative located in Canada. Previously, customers had to call the U.S. The $35 fee imposed to answer questions not related to a possible Compaq hardware defect has been eliminated and technical support for hardware and software including configuration, set-up and usage will be provided at no charge during the Compaq warranty period. All software applications loaded onto Compaq computers will be supported by Compaq's technical support free-of-charge. Under Compaq's warranty period, the company already offers on-line help for technical questions, built-in help tools stored on the Presario PCs and a Quick RestoreCD for when a user inadvertently deletes their software or hard disk. The CD will restore the original software on to the hard disk. Compaq officials were unavailable to comment on the advertising plans for the Extra Mile Service. Canadian advertising is done by Ammirati & Puris/Lintas of Toronto. Cohn & Wolfe of Toronto handles PR.
