ETHNIC FOOD NEWSLETTER
By Adnews Staff
Toronto-based B.K. Sethi Marketing is publishing a quarterly newsletter to help food retailers market to the ethnic population. Called Ethnic Food Merchandising, the publication discusses consumer profiles and buying and eating habits, as well as covering various cultural and social events, and merchandising opportunities. "The Canadian population of visible minorities is expected to reach 5.7 million by the year 2001...more than 17% of the country's residents," B.K. Sethi president Bhushan Sethi says in a release. "In addressing this market, it is important to understand the basic difference between ethnic food and specialty foods," Sethi adds. "The specialty food sections consist of a selection of imported products with the majority originating in Europe." These products target upscale consumers, and are usually eaten infrequently and in small quantities. Ethnic foods are eaten daily in large quantities by a diverse group of shoppers. The second issue of the newsletter will be available at the end of August.
