GIMMICK DAZES BURGLARS

A new security gimmick is on the market that can leave burglars dazed in a haze, according to a report from Southam News. When the Smoke Cloak burglar alarm detects an intruder, water and glucose are rapidly heated under pressure in a black box that is placed in a strategic location, such as behind a store counter. This produces a fog driven through the store by a strong fan, cutting visibility to nothing. Burglars are completely disoriented, and often just sit and wait for the police to arrive. Winnipeger Laurence Gainsborough is promoting the system. His first major customer is the 90-store Microplay video game chain. The systems cost $3,000, and Gainsborough expects to sell 1,000 of them this year. He feels he will have an especially effective selling tool when he gets hold of videotapes showing burglars in France immobilized by the fog.
