OSHAWA GROUP SELLS PHARMA PLUS
By Adnews Staff
Oshawa Group Ltd. has sold the Pharma Plus drug store chain to Katz Enterprises of Edmonton for $100 million. The move was made so Oshawa Group could focus on its food businesses. Katz owns about 100 drug stores in Western Canada and Ontario under the Rexall Drug Store and Medicine Shoppe banners. The deal puts Katz in third position in Canada in the pharmacy sector, behind Shoppers Drug Mart and Jean Coutu Group. Pharma Plus has 240 outlets across Canada. Advertising for Pharma Plus is done by Roche, Macaulay & Partners Advertising of Toronto. Officials at Katz were unavailable to comment on how advertising will work now that the chain is under new ownership.
