AUSTRALIANS TO LIMIT SIGNS IN DOWNTOWN CORE

North Sydney, Australia is planning to limit advertising on the city's buildings. Under the new law, only owners and major tenants may have signs on buildings. The ruling would put the city in line with its sister city, Sydney, across the harbor. Currently, international company's hold most of the signs in the North Sydney central business district. Some pay as much as $750,000(US) to advertise on the buildings. The sign market in Australia is worth about $100 million(US). Industry groups such as the Outdoor Advertising Association and the Property Council of Australia say the plan will strip millions of dollars from building values.
