CANADIAN TV MAY GET VIOLENCE RATINGS
By Adnews Staff
The Action Group on Violence on Television has filed a proposal with the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission that would see TV shows rated in terms of violence, language and sexual content. AGVOT is recommending a six-level rating system according to the generally accepted stages of child development. Canadian program services will display the ratings on-screen. A 'C' rated show is for children under eight-years-of-age. A 'C8' rating is for children over eight while a family rated show is for all ages. A 'parental advisory' rating means there may be some discreet sexual references or content appropriate to the story line. The '14+' rating is for children over 14 and the '18+' rated shows are for adults. Information programming such as talk shows, documentaries and news shows are exempt from the ratings system.
