Societe de transport de Laval begins smog promotion

The Société de transport de Laval of Laval, QC will conduct a promotion this summer intended to increase bus ridership on smog days. From June 1 to Sept. 5, whenever Environment Canada issues a smog alert for the Laval region, consumers will be able to ride the Laval bus system for a fare of one dollar. When there is a smog alert, the organization will issue a bulletin on its website, in its newsletter and via social media, as well as through media outlets. Acccording to the society, the intent is to reduce car usage and thereby air pollution.

“The STL and Laval residents are very proud of the smog alert initiative,” said Jocelyne Frédéric-Gauthier, chair of the board of the STL. “Public transit plays a crucial role in the fight against climate change. If more people used the bus, especially during smog periods, we could all help to improve the air quality.”
