Sharethrough launches QR code service

Sharethrough, an advertising exchange company based in Montreal, has launched a new service that uses QR codes to, according to the firm, "increase the attention and effectiveness of video ads." The service is aimed at advertisers conducting campaigns on Internet-connected television sets. The codes are automatically added to ads running on the exchange which consumers can scan with a smartphone during commercial breaks.

"Through our research we were able to confirm a majority of TV viewers turn to their phone during commercial breaks," said Sharethrough chief product officer, Curt Larson "Respondents expressed their receptiveness to QR codes which lead to the development of CTV Dynamic QR Codes. Tapping into the use of that second screen can provide advertisers with the opportunity to keep viewers' attention and resonate with them, resulting in greater ROI and more successful advertisements."
