Maple Leaf Foods begins food insecurity campaign

Maple Leaf Foods has begun a campaign intended to raise awareness of the issue of food security. The effort, called “Speak Up for Food Security,” is timed to coincide with World Food Day on Oct. 16 and is being conducted by the Maple Leaf Centre for Action on Food Security. Through a new function on the centre’s website, consumers can identify their Members of Parliament and send customized letters asking for action in this issue. The function is located at <http://www.feedopportunity.com/contact-your-MP>.

“This campaign speaks to the impossible choices millions of people in Canada face about whether to pay essential bills like heat and rent or feed their families,” said Sarah Stern, leader of the centre. “It's a choice no one should have to make but is truly unconscionable in a nation as rich as ours. We are asking people to contact their Member of Parliament to let them know that we want a better Canada where everyone can access good food.”
