Rubik's Cube readies world record promotion

Toy company Rubik's Brand is preparing a promotion to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the Rubik's Cube. On June 25, the brand will invite consumers nationally to attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for most people simultaneously solving the puzzle. The record currently stands at 3,997. The effort will take place via a YouTube livestream hosted by Keaton Ellis, who specializes in speed solving the cube. To beat the record, 20,000 participants will be required to attend the livestream for a minimum of 10 minutes. For participants who wish to practice in advance, the product’s website will host a guide to finding the solution.

“Rubik's has long been a staple in the toy industry, but for our 40th anniversary, we wanted to participate in something bigger,” said Christoph Bettin, CEO of Rubik's Brand. “This is the first time that Rubik's has tried to achieve something of this scale. We are inviting everyone, whether novice or more seasoned, to solve the Rubik's Cube together.”
