Lung Cancer Canada begins social media campaign

Toronto-based charitable organization Lung Cancer Canada has begun a social media campaign called “I Deserve to Live.” The effort is timed to coincide with Lung Cancer Awareness Month. The campaign encourages consumers to share their own experiences with the disease and to sign an online pledge of support. The aim of the initiative is to encourage provincial governments to add new drugs and treatments to their health care coverage plans.

“The progress we have made in the last 10 years in screening, diagnostics and treatments have been truly remarkable,” said Shem Singh, executive director of Lung Cancer Canada. “However innovation is not effective if it does not reach patients. No province has implemented a screening program, and in some cases years go by after Health Canada approves a drug before it is covered by the provinces. This is too long and cannot continue if we believe that lung cancer patients deserve to live.”
