Developmental Services Ontario begins awareness campaign

Developmental Services Ontario has begun a campaign called “My DSO Journey” intended to raise awareness of the importance of social inclusion for adults with developmental disabilities. The initiative features the personal experiences of six individuals who have made use of the organization’s services to become more independent and active in their communities. One story will be highlighted per week in online videos on the website <http://www.dsontario.ca>, accompanied by social media content.

“Transitioning to adult services and navigating that system can be a daunting process,” said Kimberly Thorn, director of the central east region at Developmental Services Ontario. “The DSO is there to help gather information on the person's preferences, goals and the support necessary for them to be meaningfully involved in their communities. We recognize that there are many individuals waiting for ministry-funded services that are not aware of other community resources that may be available to them. We are hopeful that our new tools, online and in print, will provide individuals and caregivers with valuable information to help them find additional community support.”
