Government nominates new lobbying commissioner

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has nominated Nancy Bélanger to the post of commissioner of lobbying. The office was established in 2008 to maintain the federal government's Registry of Lobbyists, to foster public awareness of the Lobbying Act, and to ensure compliance with the act. Bélanger is currently deputy commissioner for legal services and public affairs at the Office of the Information Commissioner of Canada. She also spent six years as general counsel for the Office of the Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner. Her nomination remains subject to approval by the House of Commons and the Senate.
