Ontario Council of Hospital Unions begins awareness campaign

The Toronto-based Ontario Council of Hospital Unions has begun a campaign intended to raise awareness of workplace safety issues at Ontario hospitals. According to the organization, the initiative highlights incidents of violence by patients and family members against hospital staff. It makes use of television, radio and social media advertising.
"Violence against hospital staff is real and rampant," said Michael Hurley, president of the Ontario Council of Hospital Unions. "But preventing workplace violence begins with acknowledging that it's a problem. That's something that, unfortunately for both staff and patients, Ontario hospital employers have refused to do in recent contract negotiations."
