GROUP BEGINS DRUG AWARENESS INITIATIVE
By Adnews Staff
The Canadian Centre for Drug Information kicked off a drug awareness program this week. Coinciding with National Drug Awareness Week, the initiative will use a poster to inform Canadians about the ravaging effects of drugs on the human body. Entitled The Self-Destructive Use of Drugs, the poster combines graphics with medical information researched and verified by health specialists. It bluntly describes the impact on various organs of 12 drug groups ranging from legal substances such as alcohol, nicotine and caffeine to illegal drugs. The poster will be pinned up in prominent locations where it will be a constant reminder of the side-effects caused by substance abuse. Interested parties can obtain the poster from the centre for a nominal price. Proceeds from the sale will be used in the development of future anti-drug programs. A national print campaign will run this week to make people aware of the poster's availability. The advertising was handled in-house. Based in Montreal, the privately-run Canadian Centre for Drug Information is dedicated to educating the public about substance abuse.
