ROGERS RELEASES D-I-Y SECURITY SYSTEM

Rogers CanGuard Inc. of Toronto is retailing a new home security system through Canadian Tire Corp. Ltd. stores. Available nationwide this week, the do-it-yourself package includes a control panel with keypad, a remote control unit, two door/window sensors, a motion sensor and three CanGuard warning decals. Until now, CanGuard has offered only professionally-installed security systems. Canguard vice-president and general manager Alek Krstajic told Adnews the move to retail is an opportunity to build brand recognition, without having to resort to a multi-million dollar advertising campaign. Krstajic said the security system will initially be promoted through Canadian Tire flyers, point-of-purchase materials and cable bill stuffers. In the next 18-24 months, after brand recognition has been established CanGuard may increase its advertising considerably. Display and point-of-purchase materials for the security system were created by Impact FCB of Toronto. Griffith Communications of Toronto worked on the packaging. Rogers CanGuard is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Rogers Cablesystems Limited. It provides home security monitoring services in addition to supplying small businesses with individualized security systems.
