Niagara Falls Illumination Board seeks new lighting technology

The Niagara Falls Illumination Board, based in Niagara Falls, ON, has issued a request for qualifications to consider new lighting technology for the waterfalls. According to the board, the process is part of an effort to promote increased tourism. It will take the form of an investigation of ways to improve the overall illumination of the Horseshoe Falls and the American Falls. The board is seeking submissions from lighting firms about new ways to improve or enhance its existing Xenon lighting system, which has been in use for 20 years. Submissions must demonstrate expertise in the lighting selection design, construction technology and successful implementation of similar projects. The process will pre-qualify successful participants for any future request for proposals phase.
"The Illumination Board is proud of the role we have played in the tourism industry and of the efforts we have made in creating a lasting impression of Niagara Falls for our visitors," said Jim Diodati, mayor of Niagara Falls and chair of the Illumination Board. "By undertaking this RFQ, we hope to learn more about what can be done to further shine a positive light on Niagara for all our visitors, so they can truly appreciate the beauty and majesty that is Niagara Falls at night."
