Ontario Lung Association begins Lungevity Tour

The Ontario Lung Association has begun a promotion called the "2012 COPD Lungevity Tour" to raise awareness of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. During the tour, two sufferers of the disease will travel the province by motorcyle to encourage early testing for COPD, especially among current and former smokers over the age of 40. The tour is being sponsored by Boehringer Ingelheim Canada and Medigas. It will run until Sept. 14. The tour is being supported with a website at <http://www.on.lung.ca/lungevity> as well as with social media activities. "Most individuals with COPD are not diagnosed until the disease is well advanced," said George Habib, president and CEO of the Ontario Lung Association. "Yet a simple breathing test, called spirometry, that can be done at a physician's office or clinic can help diagnose this breath-taking disease. With early diagnosis and treatment, COPD can be managed so patients can breathe easier and enjoy more of life."
