Hudson's Bay rebrands itself

Retail chain Hudson's Bay has introduced a new corporate logo and identity. The rebranding work was done by Arcade Agency of Toronto. The changes were made in coordination with the upcoming 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Vancouver, of which Hudson's Bay is a sponsor. The logo will appear on official Olympic clothing, including athlete uniforms. The rebranding follows the decision to begin using "Hudson's Bay Co." as the company's name rather than the initials "HBC." The modifications are intended to update the look of the brand while reflecting the ideals of quality and heritage. "The new logo works because it is built from elements that represent the brand," said Pablo Mozo, creative director at Arcade. "We took the traditional crest and flattened it, graphically interpreted it but stayed true to all the elements. We also used multi colored stripes from the blanket and incorporated it into the crest. Hudson's Bay is a part of our daily modern life and we feel like the new logo reflects that without forgetting where we have come from."
