COMPAQ SLASHES PRICES

Compaq Canada cut prices last week on personal computers, monitors and RAM memory. Discounts went as high as 28% for commercial desktop machines and as much as 39% for random access memory. Monitors went down in price as much as 15%. The parent company, Compaq Computer Corp. of Houston, Texas, reduced its prices on the same products by similar amounts earlier this month. Today the company is launching a summer-long $10-million(US) print ad campaign in the U.S. Created by Ammirati & Puris/Lintas of New York, the ads will support the launches of various new machines. A Compaq spokesperson wouldn't say last week if the campaign is coming to Canada. She only stated that the company will support any new products with advertising. Ammirati's Toronto office handles advertising for Compaq Canada.
