Pizza Pizza, Pepsi-Cola Canada hold flashing can contest
By Adnews Staff
Pizza Pizza and Pepsi-Cola Canada have begun a joint promotion in Ontario called the "Find the Flashing Can" contest. The effort involves approximately two million specially-marked Pepsi cans that will be sold at Pizza Pizza locations in that province. Of these, 305 cans will contain a device that will produce an orange flash when the can is opened. Consumers who receive a flashing can will win an Apple Video IPod. "Contests are meant to be fun, and this is one that we believe will really connect with people," said Pat Finelli, vice-president of marketing at Pizza Pizza. "The people at Pepsi have told us it's the first time they have done something like this with the restaurant industry, and Pizza Pizza is delighted it chose to collaborate with us on this unique campaign." The contest, which began yesterday and will run until May 7, is being promoted with a marketing campaign consisting of radio, print, online, out-of-home and in-store advertising, as well as flyers. In addition, promotional workers in Toronto and Ottawa distributed flashing orange lights to pedestrians yesterday.
