Vancouver-based Sandman Hotels, Inns & Suites has begun a fundraising pilot program in association with the Nature Conservancy of Canada. During the two-month awareness project, customers who stay at the Sandman Hotel in that city will be invited to donate one dollar to the conservancy to help protect threatened natural habitats in Canada. The hotel chain will match the amount donated. Information about the organization and its work will be distributed through the hotel's front desk. "Our initial partnership with Sandman in BC is very important, with significant implications for our organization across Canada," said Jan Garnett, the conservancy's regional ice-president for British Columbia. "With hotel properties throughout BC, Sandman has the ability to engage a considerable audience to further our urgent work to protect ecologically significant landscapes that help to define BC and Canada." If the pilot project is successful, the efforts will be expanded to all BC Sandman hotels. The program may also be made national in the future. Sandman Hotels has 35 properties nationally.
