Family Channel promotes new series with online debut

Astral Media of Toronto will support the premiere of a new Family Channel program called "Life With Derek" with an online promotion next weekend. The first episode of the half-hour family comedy series will be made available as a streaming download on the channel's website at <http://www.family.ca> from March 10 to 12. According to the company, this will be the first time a Canadian-produced live-action television series will debut online. The series will then be broadcast for five days running from March 13 to 17 before being moved to its regular Friday evening timeslot. "Streaming an entire episode offers a groundbreaking way to promote this new Canadian original television series and we anticipate our audience to respond strongly in terms of both online traffic and series viewership," said Barbara Bailie, interactive director of Family Channel. The series was produced by Shaftesbury Films and Pope Productions in association with Family Channel.
