BBM Canada's Quebec Franco panel to expand

The Francophone panel of Portable People Meter monitoring devices operated by BBM Canada will be increased to 800 Quebec households. The upgrade is the result of a decision by 23 broadcasters in that province. The company's Quebec Franco service was launched in 2001 with 365 households. This number was increased to 530 households in 2004. The new expansion will take place within the 2005-2006 broadcast year. "PPM has more than proved its superiority since becoming the commercial currency in Quebec and Montreal Franco. The Quebec broadcasters' decision to expand PPM is confirmation that PPM is the right choice for the present and the future," said Robert Langlois, vice-president of Quebec at BBM Canada. "The expansion of PPM to 800 homes will make the data more stable and reliable than ever before for narrow demographic groups and over shorter periods of time." The Portable People Meter is a small device that is carried by a sample group of television viewers. The device detects codes embedded in the audio of a television broadcast, thereby tracking the user's exposure to the medium regardless of location.
