Microsoft Canada has signed on as the presenting sponsor of a World Cup Skateboarding competition that will take place in Toronto from Sept. 30 to Oct. 3. Called the "Xbox Presents West 49 Canadian Open - Battle of the Brands," the event will involve 72 skateboarders competing as individuals and in teams for US$75,000 in prizes. "The West 49 Canadian Open delivers an experience to which the passionate fans of Xbox can really relate," said Dawn Martynuik, promotions and partnership manager at Microsoft Canada. "We feel the event's year-round retail presence in West 49 stores coupled with the consumer relevance and television broadcast reach provides us with a tremendous opportunity to reinforce the lifestyle built around Xbox." As part of its sponsorship, Microsoft will conduct an on-site video game tournament for attendees. This will be the fourth year for the annual contest, produced by IMG Action Sports in association with World Cup Skateboarding.
