Coca-Cola releases new Canadian commercial

Toronto-based Coca-Cola has released a new television commercial called "The Pour." Thirty- and 60-second versions of the ad, created by MacLaren McCann Canada of Toronto, will air nationally until mid-September. The ad will also be shown in cinemas beginning in mid-August. The commercial shows a group of young people wearing brown running through the streets of a town. When they reach a square, they draw a the shapes of a large bottle and a glass on the ground in chalk. Then, they group themselves inside the outline of the bottle and simulate the pouring of a Coke by running into the glass. Another group unfurls a Coca-Cola flag nearby. "Our goal was to create an ad that was unique and would intrigue our consumers, give them something out of the ordinary. We also wanted to deliver something that had a global feel and would represent the diversity of Coca-Cola drinkers," said Aaron Macanuel, group brand manager for the Coke trademark in Canada. "To make Coca-Cola resonate we needed to show it in a context that was fun, sociable, spontaneous and above all, authentic," said Andy Manson, executive group creative director at MacLaren McCann. "We decided to treat this like a piece of public art by creating a situation and capturing peoples' reactions. The event allowed people to react in their own way."
