PrideVision readies new gay and lesbian digital channel
By Adnews Staff
Toronto-based television company PrideVision will launch a new digital cable channel called OUTtv on April 7. The service will carry programming aimed at gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender viewers. The existing PrideVision specialty channel will alter its programming to a full time schedule of "hard core gay adult content," according to the company. "PrideVision needed to divide into two channels due to high demand and the tremendously broad range of programming to serve the GLBT communities better," says Bill Craig, president of PrideVision. "Because OUTtv will have dramatically increased reach through package distribution going from 20,000 subscribers to upwards of 700,000 in over the next few months, it will now become a serious advertising platform for those companies wanting to reach the gay and lesbian market as well as the current young, hip and straight mostly female demographic that is expected to tune in." PrideVision was purchased last year from Headline Media Group by a private consortium of Canadian businesses including Pink Triangle Press, Re:Source Media and Peace Point Entertainment Group.
