BC EDUCATORS HOLD ROCK THE VOTE CONTEST
By Adnews Staff
The Federation of Post-Secondary Educators of BC, based in Vancouver, has begun a contest to encourage young people to become informed about and register to vote in the next provincial election. Entrants must submit a video clip that answers the question, "Why vote on May 17, 2005?" The contest is part of the province's "Rock the Vote" initiative. The winner will receive $2000. A judging panel of filmmakers and activists will select ten finalists from among the submissions. These videos will be posted on the Web at <http://rockthevotebc.com>. Visitors to the site will then vote to determine the winner. "Everyone has a stake in how we educate our young people and how prepared we are for the future," said Lisa McLeod, BC chairperson of the Canadian Federation of Students. "We are going to do whatever we can to raise awareness of the issues and the importance of voting." The deadline for submissions is March 1, 2005.
